Managing an Academic Lab Through Funding Uncertainty

<p>Academic lab leaders are operating in a funding environment that can make long-term planning difficult. Shifts in grant priorities; tighter competition for funding; delayed awards; and uncertainty around future research support can affect everything from staffing and purchasing to project timelines and strategic priorities.<br />
This roundtable will give academic lab managers an opportunity to discuss how they are responding to funding uncertainty and preparing their labs for what may come next. Participants will share approaches for balancing immediate research needs with longer-term financial stability; making staffing and resource decisions when future funding is unclear; and communicating with teams about constraints without creating unnecessary concern. The discussion will also explore how lab managers can work with principal investigators and institutional leaders to strengthen planning and identify options when funding changes.<br />
